The Tonlé Bati is a small lake located
along the National Road 2, about 35 km south of Phnom Penh. It is a
popular weekend destination for the local population. Innovative bamboo
shelters line the side of the lake, providing resort style comfort. This
is also a popular fishing spot for tourists and the local people.
Close to the lake, along the highway towards Takeo Province, is the Ta Prohm temple, a relatively well-preserved 12th Century
Angkorian temple built by King Jayavarman VII. Yeay Peau, another
Angkorian temple is also near the Tonlé Bati. Of the two, Ta Prohm is
the more extensive and impressive, maintaining a number of very
well-preserved beautiful carvings. Yeay Peau is a single sandstone tower
situated next to an active pagoda. The name Yeay Peau is actually named
after King Ta Phrom's mother.
